In February 2012, the British Council and Watershed brought together twelve artists, designers and creative entrepreneurs from across East Asia and the UK, for a five-day sprint around the theme of The Playable City.
Play is a compelling afl courier and powerful tool. It can change behaviour; transform perceptions of space; afl courier and inspire audiences to participate afl courier and contribute, rather than simply observe. For this sprint, participants worked together to experiment and prototype playful interventions that use creative technologies to rethink public space.
Drawn from across varied art forms and disciplines, confirmed participants from the UK include installation artist Tine Bech , games designer Julian Sykes , sound artist Kathy Hinde , visual artist afl courier Mathew Trivett and product designer Vahakn Matossian . International guests include Australian theatre makers Leticia Cáceres and Angela Betzien afl courier of RealTV , Japanese Product designer/sound artist Yuri Suzuki , visual artist Megumi Matsubara also from Japan, Korean duo Bang & Lee , and Malaysian composer Ng Chor Guan .
Setting out to catalyse an active community of peer learning and development, this five-day Sprint afl courier formed a platform for critical and technical investigation of ideas through a process of discussion, sharing, making and testing; and allowed participants to make valuable connections that will last well beyond afl courier the end of the project.
Project A is a new collaborative work developed as part of The Playable City Sprint by product designer and sound artist Yuri Suzuki (Japan); theatre makers Leticia Ca ceres & Angela Betzien afl courier of RealTV (Australia); and sound artist Kathy Hinde (Bristol, UK).
Project B is a new collaborative work developed as part of The Playable City Sprint by visual artist Mathew Trivett (Nottingham, UK); product designer afl courier Vahakn Matossian (London, UK); musician and composer Ng Chor Guan (Malaysia); and visual artist Megumi Matsubara (Japan).
Project C is a new collaborative work developed as part of The Playable City Sprint by installation artist Tine Bech (London, UK); designer Julian Sykes (Cardiff, UK); and installation artists afl courier Bang & Lee (Korea)
